Purpose of the job
The Crowds FX Artist works closely with the Crowd FX lead and Crowd TDs to create high quality animation and simulation of crowds, flocking and other similar effects.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- Utilize Houdini and other software tools for editing, cycle database management, cycle blending
efficiency, terrain optimizations, and plug-in development to accomplish specific effects
- Produce look tests based on provided reference materials and feedback
- Setting up shots and troubleshooting on the artist/agent level
- Export QC’d data to lighting and rendering
- Adhere to the show structure and production deadlines to complete all tasks
- Partner closely with Animation, Lighting and Compositing to ensure all effects will work smoothly
within the show pipeline
- Works well in a highly collaborative and iterative environment
Education and/or Experience Required
- 3+ years experience as a Crowds or FX Artist creating photo-real effects elements for feature
films and commercials
- Degree in Animation, Arts, Fine Arts or equivalent production experience
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics a plus
- Expert experience working in Houdini, Massive and/or Maya is required
- Python and/or C++ scripting is a plus
- Firm understanding of production pipelines
- Requires strong technical and communication skills within a show structure
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands
- Office working environment.
- Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending
production needs.
- Walking/bending/sitting.

The posted range describes the minimum to maximum range for this job description in the state of California and the provinces of British Columbia and Quebec. The range is posted in accordance with applicable law. The range for this same position may be lower or higher in markets outside of California or the provinces of British Columbia and Quebec. Offered base pay is contingent on internal equity, as well as the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other factors.
