DIGIC Pictures has been making 3D animated films for more than twenty years. We have won numerous prestigious awards and created short films for world-renowned brands such as Call of Duty, Netflix's Love, Death & Robots and Amazon's Secret Level series.

Our team is currently working on several high-profile projects, including the animated film series based on the world-famous card game Magic: The Gathering for Netflix.

Goal of the position: Close cooperation with other project leaders involved in the project (director, project art director, supervisors/leads) to create a high-quality artistic solution to the artistic issues arising in the project regarding the division's tasks, taking into account the project's artistic concept.

Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Developing and approving the environment department’s artistic concept for the project, based on the artistic directions defined by the Lead Art Director, and supervising the implementation of the concept.
  • Providing artistic input to the project plan
  • Providing high level artistic direction and control of the leads on the project based on the artistic directions given by the Lead Art Director, defining the artistic requirements of the leads, making artistic proposals to solve the problems encountered in the project and supervising the implementation.
  • Building consensus with the relevant managers on the progress of the project, representing the artistic aspects (summary and project review processes)
  • To signal in a timely manner to those concerned if any obstacles arise in relation to the tasks falling within the division of the project, in particular those that may have negative consequences in other areas (quality/timing/cost) and to resolve the problem effectively by consulting the relevant disciplines.
  • To use his/her knowledge and experience to mentor the environment department's staff (artists working on the project) from an artistic point of view, and support their development
  • To lead by example, meaning to be able to solve tasks themselves and use it as an example to the artists
  • Creating some of the department workflows, templates and libraries of materials, in collaboration with the department’s Supervisor.
  • Promote proactive collaboration between the disciplines for the successful completion of the project, communicating this and motivating project members to commit to the project
  • Manage art issues and deliverables that arise during the progress of the work in the in-house production software in English.
  • Actively participate in post-mortem processes to represent the artistic aspects, gather and discuss at divisional level the artistic experiences of the project, propose solutions to address them and, if accepted, participate in the implementation as required
  • Compliance with the duty of cooperation and information under the Labour Code.
  • Compliance with DIGIC's internal rules, measures and regulations governing the Division's tasks and operations.

  • Understanding and working to client, director and Lead Art Director expectations (based on feedback)
  • Timeliness and quality of artistic decisions made at division level (based on feedback)

Professional competencies:

  • Knowledge of exemplary art (e.g., drawing, anatomy, art/period/dressing/architecture history, lighting, color, etc.) related to division disciplines
  • High level of knowledge of other stages of the asset production and film workflow
  • Knowledge of 2D and 3D graphics software, for example: Substance painter, Maya, 3D Coat
  • Several years of experience as Lead Environment Artist in Animation, stylized CG, or Games.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating stylized environment modeling, surfacing and material creation.
  • Advanced visual culture
  • Knowledge of film language, new visual directions, film/animation cinematic presentation paths
  • At least intermediate level of English
  • Google G-Suite package confident user level

  • Collaborate across functions - Partner with other department heads, HR, Finance, recruitment and project producers to ensure alignment on goals, capacity, and business performance.
