Flying Bark Productions is a dynamic and innovative animation studio dedicated to pushing the boundaries of character animation and storytelling. We are working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Ghostbusters animated series and Stranger Things animated series, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan.


The Financial Accountant is responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial
reporting, maintaining high-quality financial records, and supporting the integrity of the
organization's financial operations. This role plays a key part in month-end, quarter-end, and
year-end processes, statutory compliance, and financial analysis.

About The Role:
Financial Reporting & Accounting

  • Prepare and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Undertake month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, accruals,
    prepayments, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain the general ledger with high accuracy, ensuring completeness and data
    integrity across all financial entries.
  • Assist in preparing statutory accounts and supporting documentation for external
    audits.
  • Project Accounting experience essential (Revenue Recognition, POC, transfer
    pricing)

Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards (AIFRS), taxation
    legislation, and internal financial policies.
  • Prepare and lodge regulatory and statutory returns, including BAS, FBT, payroll tax,
    and other statutory requirements.
  • Support internal and external audit processes by providing schedules, reconciliations,
    and explanatory notes.
  • Monitor and strengthen internal controls, helping to identify risks and implement
    corrective measures.

Business Analysis & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and financial reports to support
    performance tracking and decision-making.
  • Provide financial insights, trends, and analytical commentary to management and
    operational teams.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modelling activities as required.


Systems Management & Process Improvement

  • Utilize D365 F&O to maintain financial data, streamline workflows, and support
    accurate reporting.
  • Champion best-practice use of financial systems and contribute to system
    improvements, enhancements, and upgrades.
  • Document processes and contribute to finance transformation initiatives, encouraging
    automation and efficiency.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Work closely with operational, commercial, HR, and executive teams to provide
    financial guidance and respond to information requests.
  • Communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial stakeholders.


About You:
Essential

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in financial accounting or a similar senior accounting
    role.
  • Completed CPA or CA qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations (D365
    F&O).
  • Strong capability in Power BI, including building dashboards, data modelling, and
    report visualisation.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial systems.
  • Strong understanding of Australian Accounting Standards, GST, FBT, and other
    taxation requirements.
  • Proven experience preparing financial statements and supporting audit processes.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail, strong organizational ability, and a commitment to maintaining data accuracy.

Desirable

  • Experience within a corporate, production finance, or complex multi-entity & multi-
    currency environment.
  • Exposure to system implementation or finance transformation projects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused environment with cross-functional stakeholders.
