We are currently hiring FX & Compositing Artists to join our team where you will create stunning seamless visuals and add dynamic energy and realism to our animation projects.

Purpose: Why you’re here at Brown Bag Films

  • To create FX & Comp assets based on the visual and narrative requirements from the Art Director and episodic director while working within the technical specifications of the show.
  • To construct and creatively combine all the elements into the final image by ensuring that the established style of the project is respected, and continuity is maintained

Delivery: What you produce

  • Artistically and technically accurate FX & Comp assets and shots in collaboration with the Art Department and Animation Department.
  • Final images with combined layers of previously-created material, including computer animation, effects and backgrounds.
  • Polished animated scenes (cinematic) (ex. Extra lighting, shadows, blurs glows, parallax, lens artifacts, particles, procedural fx brighter colors)

Measurements: How we measure it

  • Completion of tasks within agreed schedule
  • Handling of revisions and tweaks effectively
  • Team cohesion, quality of work & technical capability

Key Responsibilities

What you are regularly responsible for doing:

  • To create episodic list of effects based on the leica.
  • Reviewing Leica with the whole show team.
  • Review the daily.
  • Completion of FX & Comp assets and shots within the agreed time allowed.
  • Contributing to best practices and pipeline within the studio.
  • Seeking to understand the intent of the scene to maintain the animation and art style.
  • Review assigned shots to ensure quality meets production standards,
  • Ensure completion of revisions.
  • Reviewing own assets and shots with Shot-grid render.
  • Collaborating with Supervisor regarding any creative or technical challenges (continuity, missing assets, scene discrepancies, layering problem, etc)
  • Collaborating with Supervisor and team members to ensure quality and consistency of work
  • Participate in scheduled meetings
  • Seeking to be proactive in asking for help, problem-solving, creating tools, supporting team members and Supervisor

Key Requirements

Things that help you do your job (what is essential and what is desirable)

Knowledge:

  • Strong understanding of elements animation principals (fire, water, air, earth and magic).
  • Considerable appreciation of how animation software applications are applied to animation production.
  • Strong draftsman skill and good design skills.
  • Proficient in Harmony.
  • Knowledge of software applications such as After Effects, Nuke, Blender, etc.

Experience:

  • Experience on long-form Film/TV animation productions (desirable).
  • Experience with compositing using software’s such as Toon Boom, Harmony, etc.

Technical skills:

  • Solid understanding of composition, light, color, and film production concepts (ie. camera moves, lens artifacts, terminology, etc.)
  • Maintenance of Compositing pipelines
  • Creative skills in thinking out-of-the-box, and ability to identify efficient solutions
