Scene Planning Supervisor

Our Toronto team is looking for an experienced Scene Planning Supervisor to be responsible for leading the Scene planning department building all the scenes for the episodes leading to animation.

- To manage, mentor and develop the Scene Planning team to meet creative and schedule goals and bring clarity to the Director and Client expectations.
- To create an encouraging work environment for Scene planners to grow and flourish.
Delivery: What you produce
- Managing Scene Planning team and schedule.
- Assembled and composed scene quota.
- Creative and Technical review of completed scenes.
- Identify workflow, pipeline and library/reuse efficiencies.
- Mentorship and Scene Planner development.
Measurements: How we measure it
- Scene planned output meeting requirements within scope and Production schedule
- Client feedback
- Feedback from Producer(s) and Director and/or Production Leadership.
- Team development & sustainability.
What you are regularly responsible for doing:
- Managing and developing the Scene Planning team ensuring the creative and technical process are on target for production output and scheduled delivery.
- Working one on one with the Scene Planners to mentor, provide regular feedback, refine and find ways to bring their creative choices into the overall vision of the project
- Providing clear and concise upfront direction through Notes, drawovers, etc., offering adjustments and clarifications to the team
- Working with Scene Planners to solve asset, technical or artistic challenges during day-to-day production of the episode
- Creating an encouraging and engaging work environment within the Scene Planning Team and advocating for the team in respect of work quality, morale and schedule
- Being an exemplar to the team by creating an inspiring but small amount of quota.
- Reviewing and/or Approving: Scene planned passes, Tech pass/Leica lock
- Collaborating with Background, Assets, Animation and Production regarding any creative or technical challenges (continuity, missing assets, scene discrepancies, rig challenges, etc.)
- Alongside the Client, Director and Creative Leads, creating and/or maintaining the show style that supports overall show intent, and that is engaging for audiences.
- Tracking progress of weekly episode goals and milestones, identifying and acting on issues (such as vacations, sick days, missing assets, etc.) and collaborating with Supervisors or Production for larger consideration.
- Watching a daily every morning to ensure work is going according to launch, discussions or intention of episode, managing adjustments to anything too far outside show style.
Things that help you do your job (what is essential and what is desirable)
- Knowledge: Extensive knowledge in 2D animation production pipelines and workflows; Strong understanding of composition; Strong appreciation of how 2D animation software applications are applied to animation production.
- Experience: Experience on at least 4-5 long-form Film/TV animation productions; Some leadership experience in managing and mentoring Teams in an animation environment and forecasting project solutions and requirements (desirable); Well-founded experience with asset tracking systems & workflow management software (e.g. Shotgrid).
- Technical skills: Forecasting workflow; Knowledge and experience with Toon Boom Harmony; Skills in rigging (desirable); Proficient in Microsoft Office, in particular Excel, MS Project and PowerPoint.
