Senior Environment Designer
We’re excited to be back in our Montreal studio Tuesday thru Thursday… come join us! The Senior Environment Designer is responsible for the creation of 3D Blender artwork used as the basis for the ongoing creative project. They will also need to have conventional line drawing and paint skills to convert Blender designs into traditional model packs for assets departments. The Senior Environment Designer is also responsible for developing a variety of looks and styles, taking into account any styles, directions, and guidance set down by the Art Director and Production Designer.
Responsibilities
Create environments in Blender designed to transfer into Maya with minimal rework. Create drawings and paintings to explore the style and desired result of final imagery. Precisely and accurately follow references and direction to create the desired look of a scene. Work in a set style, but also further push that style to capture new ideas based on story needs while receiving minimal direction. Self motivating. Create multiple drawings and paintings to be used as layers or backgrounds in composite images. Perform visual and analytical problem solving in 2D/3D spaces. Work with a production team and visual effects supervisor to create the desired look for environments that may reflect any of a wide variety.
Qualifications
Degree/diploma in Computer Graphics, Fine Art, Architectural/Industrial Design, or related field; or equivalent experience. A good eye for color, composition and detail as it relates to organic models, hard surface models and environments. A strong understanding of how things should look and feel given specific artistic direction or reference. Understanding of hard surfaces, organic, and strong illustrative graphic design sensibilities. The ability to combine naturalistic lighting effects, with abstract design that incorporates classic animation styling. Extensive experience with Blender. Extensive experience with Photoshop. Experience with traditional drawing, and/or painting. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. A creative and collaborative problem solver who is organized and critical of his or her own work. Superior craftsmanship. This job description is not meant to be all inclusive.
