We are seeking a skilled and creative Houdini FX Artist to visualize, develop, and execute a hero photorealistic light effect for an indie sci-fi feature film currently in post-production. Candidates should have strong technical expertise in volumetric and procedural workflows, as well as a good eye for light interaction and physically-based behavior.
Responsibilities
R&D and Look Development
- Lead the procedural R&D and look development phase for the hero light effect, establishing motion language, density, and emission characteristics in close collaboration with the film's director.
- Build and author robust, artist-friendly Houdini digital assets (HDAs) that encapsulate the approved look and allow downstream FX artists to efficiently populate additional shots.
- Write technical documentation of HDA parameters, naming conventions, and shot-specific workflows.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of production experience as an FX or Houdini Artist on feature film, episodic, or equivalent high-end VFX projects.
- Working knowledge of Autodesk Arnold (open to using V-Ray or Redshift for lookdev purposes).
- Strong understanding of physically based lighting principles, color science, and comp-friendly AOV delivery.
