Lead Matte Painting
We’re excited to be back in our Montreal studio Tuesday thru Thursday… come join us! Working with the Production Designer, Art Director, Modeling Supervisor, Lighting Supervisor, and Layout Supervisor to create matte paintings (e.g. 2D background mattes or projection artwork for geometry / paintings / plates) for a 3D stereoscopic animated feature film.
Responsibilities
To create and lead artists in creating the 2D painted backgrounds required to complete any 3D environments, sets or scenes on the film, while working with the design, layout and modeling departments. To troubleshoot and use talents to create visually stunning backgrounds which match and marry to the film’s style and 3D requirements, using direction given by the Art Director and Production Designer. Introduce innovative ideas through his/her work creating matte paintings for the production, which work with the film’s goals, and in 3D animation.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience creating matte paintings for feature films. Proven experience setting up and delivering matte painting projections in compositing (Nuke or equivalent camera projection / 2.5D workflows) and/or in 3D (Maya or equivalent projections onto proxy geometry), and understanding how projected mattes behave with moving cameras and in stereo. Strong ability to paint light and mood while matching 3D or live action plates. Strong skills in painting, drawing, composition, color matching. Ability to create matte paintings stylistically and / or photo realistically using 2D and 3D applications. Intermediate computer literacy, extensive skills in Photoshop/ After Effects. Knowledge of Mac/Linux as well as Maya/Nuke platforms. Ability to follow directions and complete tasks independently while working within the framework of a team. Good mentoring skills. Ability to problem solve. Ability to meet tight deadlines. Familiar with Stereoscopic digital process. This job description is not meant to be all inclusive.
