The VFX Editor will work on the client/production side to support the visual effects process from prep through final delivery. This role is responsible for organizing and tracking VFX shots in the edit, managing turnovers to vendors, and acting as a key liaison between Picture Editorial, VFX Production, and external vendors. You will maintain up‑to‑date VFX editorial timelines, ensure accurate lineups and versions, and support the creative and technical flow of VFX work across the show.
Key Responsibilities
Editorial & Shot Management
- Maintain the VFX editorial timeline and update VFX edits as new versions arrive from vendors.
- Check and confirm picture lineup for all VFX shots (frame accuracy, handles, timecode, aspect ratio, etc.).
- Track editorial changes from Picture Editorial and reflect them in the VFX edit (new cuts, trims, re-times, shot additions/removals).
- Create and update EDLs, cut lists, and reference exports as needed for VFX turnovers and vendor communication.
- Maintain clear, organized VFX sequences with proper shot naming, versioning, and metadata.
Turnovers & Vendor Support
- Prepare and manage VFX turnovers to vendors, ensuring all materials are complete and accurate (plates, references, LUTs, frame ranges, annotations, etc.).
- Update VFX shot counts and turnovers as the cut evolves, and flag any editorial impacts to the VFX Production team.
- Ingest, review, and organize returned VFX submissions; cut them into the VFX update edit for review and internal approvals.
- Assist in tracking vendor deliveries, notes, and version history in coordination with the VFX Coordinator/Producer.
Liaison with Picture Editorial
- Serve as the primary editorial bridge between Picture Editorial and the VFX department.
- Communicate cut changes, turnovers, and editorial needs clearly and promptly.
- Request and manage delivery of editorial materials (reference QuickTimes, AAF/EDL/XML, audio, etc.) required for VFX.
- Ensure Picture Editorial is kept up to date with approved VFX temps and finals for use in the main picture edit.
Previs, Postvis & Temps
- Assist with prepping and integrating previs and postvis into the edit for reviews and screenings.
- Work with previs/postvis teams to provide plates, editorial reference, and updated cut information.
- Cut in temp comps or mockups as needed to support creative reviews, test screenings, and internal presentations.
Media Management & Deliverables
- Upload and manage VFX-related media on the studio’s Content Hub (or equivalent) and other review/delivery platforms.
- Add watermarks, slates, and burn‑ins according to show and studio security requirements.
- Create and export reference movies, review reels, and comparison cuts for internal and external reviews.
- Maintain organized project files, media, and archives for VFX editorial.
Qualifications
- Experience as a VFX Editor, Assistant Editor, or similar editorial role in feature film, series, or high‑end content.
- Strong proficiency with industry‑standard editing software (e.g., Avid Media Composer, Adobe Premiere Pro) and common VFX editorial workflows.
- Solid understanding of VFX pipelines: turnovers, plate pulls, versioning, color pipelines (LUTs, color space basics), and delivery specs.
- Strong understanding of timecode, EDL/AAF/XML exports, frame rates, and conform processes.
- Excellent organizational skills with high attention to detail and version control.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines, manage multiple sequences/shots, and adapt to fast‑moving editorial changes.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with Picture Editorial, VFX Supervisors, VFX Producers, and Vendors.
- Fluent in Korean with business-level English proficiency (verbal and written).
Preferred Qualifications
