Systems Administrator
OVERVIEW
We are looking for a Systems Administrator to join our team in our Toronto office. In this role, you will be the primary custodian of our studio’s high-performance data pipeline, directly managing our storage architecture alongside our core systems infrastructure. You will support a high-throughput multi-OS studio environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Storage Architecture & Administration: Own the day-to-day administration, monitoring, and capacity planning for our multi-cluster storage environments, ensuring seamless multi-protocol data access via SMB and NFS.
- Engineering & Automation: Develop and deliver infrastructure solutions utilizing automation, configuration management, and industry-standard security best practices.
- System Visibility: Deploy, maintain, and optimize monitoring systems to ensure maximum uptime, proactive alerting, and performance visibility.
- Virtualization Management: Administer and maintain VMware environments (or similar hypervisors) to support high-availability studio workloads.
- Cross-Platform Administration: Manage, troubleshoot, and automate both Windows and Linux server environments using scripting languages such as Bash, PowerShell, or Python.
- Network Maintenance: Configure and maintain network infrastructure, including managed switches and firewalls, to ensure secure and efficient data flow.
- Operational Support: Provide high-tier operational support for studio infrastructure, including participating in a rotating after-hours on-call schedule.
- ITSM Framework: Apply ITIL best practices to day-to-day operations, utilizing standard tools for effective Incident, Change, and Problem Management.
REQUIREMENTS
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of systems engineering experience, with proven, hands-on experience administering Isilon and/or Qumulo clusters in a production environment.
- Industry Context: Prior experience in Media & Entertainment, VFX, or Animation studios is highly preferred, given the scale of our data requirements.
- OS & Scripting: Strong cross-platform troubleshooting and scripting proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
- Networking Knowledge: Solid understanding of networking fundamentals especially relating to high-bandwidth storage networking and file system performance.
- Cloud & Identity: Familiarity with hybrid setups, including on-prem with AWS/Azure cloud storage tiering, Azure Active Directory, and Google Workspace.
- Education: Degree or diploma in an IT-related discipline, or equivalent industry experience/certifications.
- Physical: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs for server rack installations.
