Role
Digital Domain's Core Software team manages the essential tools and infrastructure utilized throughout our global facilities. Our remit includes the development and oversight of systems for asset management, project tracking, software distribution, and render automation. We also provide core Python libraries, analytics, and data transfer solutions that support the creation of high-profile feature films, episodic content, commercials, and virtual reality experiences. In the role of Core Software Engineer with a DevOps focus, you will partner with various teams to architect, implement, and support the services required for building and deploying software globally. Utilizing a mix of custom and open-source technologies, this role demands a professional with a deep understanding of DevOps methodologies, expert-level Python proficiency, and a proactive approach to collaborative problem-solving.
Core Responsibilities
- Infrastructure & Platform Engineering: Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure infrastructure
using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles (Terraform, Ansible).
- CI/CD Pipeline Evolution: Architect and optimize robust CI/CD pipelines to automate build, test, and
deployment processes across global facilities, ensuring high availability, speed, and reliability.
- System Lifecycle Management: Manage the end-to-end lifecycle of software stacks, including deployment,
configuration, maintenance, and upgrades across diverse environments (Linux, Windows, Docker).
- Service Reliability & Monitoring: Proactively monitor and maintain service health, implement comprehensive
logging, tracing, and alerting systems, and lead incident response for infrastructure issues.
- Automation & Tooling: Author advanced automation scripts (Python, Bash) and configuration management
playbooks (Ansible) to streamline operational workflows and reduce manual overhead.
- Collaboration & Support: Partner with R&D, pipeline, and creative teams to integrate new tools, troubleshoot
production bottlenecks, and provide technical guidance and support.
- Documentation & Best Practices: Maintain high-quality technical documentation for architecture,
deployment processes, and troubleshooting guides to foster knowledge sharing.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: B.S. or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent
combination of education and professional experience).
- Experience: 2+ years of professional experience in DevOps, Build/Release Engineering, or Site Reliability
Engineering.
- Programming Expertise: Advanced proficiency in Python for automation and tool development; experience
with other languages (C++, Go, Bash, Rust) is highly desirable.
- CI/CD & Orchestration: Demonstrated experience designing, building, and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
(Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, Docker Swarm, Nomad).
- Configuration Management & IaC: Expert-level knowledge of Ansible, AWX, and Infrastructure as Code
tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Systems & Infrastructure: Deep understanding of Linux administration, containerization (Docker, Podman),
and distributed service management.
- Monitoring & Observability: Strong experience with monitoring, logging, and tracing stacks (ELK,
Prometheus, Grafana, Splunk).
- Database & Messaging: Familiarity with relational/NoSQL databases and messaging queues (RabbitMQ,
Kafka) preferred.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead collaborative
projects and mentor team members.
Work-Life Balance
- This position offers the flexibility of being fully remote. However, you need to reside full-time in British
Columbia. For those who prefer an in-office environment, we have locations in Vancouver and can accommodate those preferences.

- Standard work hours range from 40 to 50 hours per week. While there may be occasional requirements for
additional hours in the evenings or on weekends to perform maintenance outside of production hours, these instances are typically planned during scheduled downtime. The posted range describes the minimum to maximum range for this job description in the state of California and the provinces of British Columbia and Quebec. The range is posted in accordance with applicable law. The range for this same position may be lower or higher in markets outside of California or the provinces of British Columbia and Quebec.
