Production Accountant
9 Story Media Group is an industry leading creator, producer and distributor of award-winning animated and live action content for young audiences around the world.
We are looking for a highly skilled Production Accountant to join our team and manage the financial operations for various in-house productions. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in production accounting, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple financial tasks effectively. As the Production Accountant, you will be responsible for tracking budgets, managing payroll, cost reports, tax credits, and ensuring that all financial aspects of the production process are handled smoothly and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost reports, including direct and indirect costs related to production.
- Monitor production budgets, analyze costs and expenditures, and forecast estimated final costs.
- Work closely with producers and other departments to communicate financial results effectively, including leading monthly cost report meetings.
- Oversee bi-weekly union and non-union production payroll.
- Manage accounts payable and billback invoices related to the production and ensure they are in line with company policy.
- Perform daily accounting activities, including journal entries, and reporting.
- Prepare accurate financial month-end packages for assigned productions.
- Track accounts receivable and monitor production milestones to ensure timely invoice processing.
- Prepare CPSTC, CAVCO, OPSTC, OFFTC, and OCASE tax credit calculations and support for yearly filings.
- Compile information for tax credit audits, annual financial audits and quarterly reviews.
- Review HST returns for accuracy and compliance.
- Project bi-weekly production cashflow needs and prepare loan drawdown support as required.
- Ensure all processes are SOX compliant by maintaining effective internal controls.
- Perform other adhoc duties and responsibilities as requested by management, but not limited to production accounting only.

Key Requirements
- 2+ years of production accounting experience in the film or TV production industry, preferably in animation but not mandatory.
- Strong understanding of the production process, including budgets, cost reports, tax credits, and relevant financial regulations.
- Knowledge of SOX, tax, union, guild, and relevant government regulations.
- Ability to maintain a high level of accuracy in performing all essential duties.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple requests in order of priority.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as analytical skills.
- Willingness to improve processes and create efficiencies.
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge and experience with Entertainment Partners (EP) software (Smart Accounting, EPOL).
