Reel Breakdown
Hand-selected by the VFX Engine team
As a passionate film lover turned VFX artist, I created this reel to celebrate the cinematic moments that inspired me to dive into the world of visual effects. Each shot represents a challenge that pushed my skills and creativity forward.
Shot 1: Dinosaur Encounter
Dinosaurs were my childhood obsession, and compositing this shot was a nostalgic thrill. I focused on lighting and contact shadows to blend the dinosaur realistically into the scene.
Shot 2: Keying & Environment Creation
I chose a challenging green screen shot to showcase my keying skills. Since a matching background plate wasn’t available, I built a 3D forest using Unreal Engine, then relit and composited the scene with added muzzle flashes.
Shot 3: Alien Planet
This shot involved cleaning up all the natural grass to create a barren, lifeless alien terrain. I also composited a space pod and replaced the sky to give it a believable off-world atmosphere.
Shot 4: Space Helmet Reflection & Face Rebuild
Shot on a virtual production stage, this was a fun but detailed task. The visor reflections were incomplete, so I cleaned them up, carefully rebuilt the actor’s face behind the glass, and added new reflections that matched the environment.
Shot 5: Mecha Robot CG Integration
I’ve always wanted to work on a shot with giant robots, and this one gave me the perfect opportunity. I tracked the footage using 3D Equalizer and brought the camera data into Nuke to composite the mecha robot into the live-action plate. Matching the shadows was a fun challenge, and I also added heat haze and distortion using Nuke to enhance the sense of scale and environmental impact coming from the robot.
Shot 6: Full 3D Environment Comp
This was a full 3D render where I handled all the compositing in Nuke. I enhanced the scene by adding lights to the massive structures, atmospheric fog, subtle lighting on the truss, and interactive light effects on the floor — all to give it more depth, mood, and realism.
Shot 7: Velociraptor Shoulder Composite
I completely enjoyed working on this shot because I got to be involved from set to screen. I was on set collecting camera and lens data, as well as 3D scanning the actor to accurately place a small CG velociraptor on their shoulder. Creating the contact shadows and matching the lighting was smooth because I also shot an on-set HDRI, which helped me relight the character properly in Maya before compositing in Nuke.
This reel contains 7 total shots, each designed to showcase a different aspect of my compositing abilities — from relighting and keying to CG integration and FX enhancements.
