DMP Technical Compositing Junior

Our studio produces full CG 3D animation and visual effects for video games, commercials, and feature films — collaborating with prestigious clients across the globe.
Core Mission
The Digital Matte Painting (DMP) Technical Compositing role bridges 2D/2.5D painting and advanced compositing. Responsibilities involve creating projection setups for DMP artists, projecting 2D digital paintings onto 3D geometry and compositing them into CG plates, ensuring seamless integration and correct perspective. Operating under the guidance and close support of the Lead and Supervisor tiers, this role ensures all DMP assets are integrated seamlessly into the 3D pipeline. The Junior artist focuses on ensuring all deliveries conform to the assigned days and project milestones.
Responsibilities
Main Tasks
- Execute hands-on 2.5D and 3D projection setups within Nuke, utilizing basic geometry and cameras exported from Maya.
- Perform digital painting cleanups, element extraction, and texture preparation within Photoshop to support background extensions.
- Integrate hand-painted environments into moving shots, ensuring proper layer structure, parallax, and technical compliance.
- Participate actively in daily Interactive Rounds to present progress, address technical constraints, and apply feedback quickly.
- Update task progress, data tracking, within our proprietary project management tool to aid the unit's resource/capacity planning.
- Collaborate with senior team members to troubleshoot artifacting, texture stretching, or filter issues in the projections.
- Maintain clean script organization and strict adherence to the department's naming conventions and template structures.

- Technical Precision: Clean execution of projection scripts, accurate layer masking, and seamless 2.5D integrations free of projection errors.
- Throughput Efficiency: Consistently completing assignments within the pre-calculated days allocated per task.
- Receptivity to Feedback: Demonstrated growth and agility in implementing feedback received during Interactive Rounds.
- Pipeline Discipline: Accurate data logging and timely publishing of assets using internal production tracking tools.

Technical & Professional Skills
Technical Mastery
- Core Software: Foundational proficiency in Nuke (focusing on the 3D system, projection nodes, and basic compositing workflows) and Photoshop (focusing on layering, masking, and matte paint cleanup).
- 3D Familiarity: Basic knowledge of Maya for modelling/importing/exporting layout geometry, cameras, and basic shaders.
Professional Skills
- Communication Etiquette: Demonstrates professional, clear communication when interacting with peers, Leads, and production coordinators.
- Proactivity: Ability to seek out guidance and close support early when facing technical blockers or schedule risks.
