3D Modeller (Hard-Surface and Environment)
At Orange VFX Studios, we’re at the forefront of creating spellbinding visual effects for film, television, and interactive media. We are searching for talented 3D Modellers with a dedicated focus on hard-surface and environment creation to join our dynamic team. Whether you are an accomplished Mid-level artist looking to build intricate worlds, or a Senior modeller ready to lead environment pipelines and inspire a team, if you have a passion for crafting production-ready assets using Maya, Blender, and Substance Painter, we’d love to hear from you.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a 3D Modeller focusing on environments and props, you will play a key role in our creative team, building the tangible world around our characters. Your responsibilities will scale based on your experience level:
- Create high-quality hard-surface 3D models (architecture, vehicles, weapons, and complex props) in line with the project’s artistic and technical requirements.
- Execute precise hard-surface modelling workflows, ensuring clean, non-destructive subdivision topology and highly efficient UV layouts.
- Texture assets to a high standard, ranging from clean, stylised looks to highly weathered, realistic materials.
- Collaborate closely with concept artists, layout artists, and lighting teams to ensure assets fit perfectly within the scene scale, composition, and technical pipeline.
- For Senior Level: Take ownership of complex “hero” environments and master assets, assist in troubleshooting pipeline challenges, establish standard operating procedures for scene assembly, and actively mentor mid-level and junior artists.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- A certificate, diploma or degree in Computer Graphics, 3D Art, or a related field (or equivalent professional production experience).
- Strong working knowledge of either Autodesk Maya or Blender is an absolute must for core modelling and UV mapping workflows.
- Expertise in Substance Painter for creating highly detailed materials, weathering, and texture maps.
- Deep understanding of hard-surface edge flow, bevels, and optimal topology for subdivision surface (SubD) rendering.
- A strong eye for mechanical functionality, architectural scale, proportion, and weight.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset, with the ability to take constructive feedback and adapt under tight deadlines.
- Bonus Skills: Basic knowledge of ZBrush for adding organic damage, wear, and tear to hard-surface assets is highly desirable.
- For Senior Track: A proven track record of guiding massive environment sets or complex mechanical rigs from block-out to final textured delivery, alongside a solid understanding of technical pipeline optimisation.
- A compelling and up-to-date portfolio showcasing a strong range of hard-surface modelling, specifically including wireframe renders and UV layouts to demonstrate technical proficiency.
