Color Assist

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Colour Assistant is a key support role within the Picture team, working closely with colourists to ensure efficient colour grading workflows from ingest through final delivery. This role requires a strong willingness to learn, as the Colour Assistant is expected to adapt to evolving technologies and internal workflows. The Colour Assistant is technically minded, detail-oriented, and proactive in identifying solutions and providing day-to-day operational and creative support to the colour team.

MAIN DUTIES:

The Colour Assistant will support colourists in supervised client sessions, following direction from Colourists and/or Production Management. They will colour-trace project updates across all relevant versions. They will verify that all required elements are present, including drop-ins, mattes, and conform references. They will prepare colour suites ahead of session start times according to project requirements. Other duties include:

• Communicate with Production and Operations teams regarding outstanding media needed for completion.
• Maintain high standards across all deliverables produced during long form finishing.
• Accurately track and complete all assigned tasks in task management software on a daily basis.
• Create and maintain centralized workflow documentation.
• Stay informed on emerging software, colour grading techniques, and industry technology; evaluate competing tools and workflows as needed.
• Participate in the evaluation of test shoots and collaborate with the Director of Photography (DOP) and other departments, when required.

They will have excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with all stakeholders. They will be highly organized and detail-oriented. They will have the ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced, demanding environment. They will have a collaborative mindset with a positive attitude and willingness to contribute within a team environment. They will be curious and eager to learn new technologies and workflows. They will have the availability to work overtime and/or weekends on short notice as needed, based on project demands. Shift schedule is determined by the Production team and may vary.

Nice to Have:

• Demonstrated experience working in post-production environments, preferably within colour grading or finishing departments.
• Familiarity with industry-standard colour grading software (e.g., DaVinci Resolve, Baselight, or similar).
• Basic understanding of video codecs, colour science, and file management workflows.
• Experience working in client-supervised sessions or collaborating directly with creative teams.
• Previous exposure to projects such as documentaries, series, or feature films.
