Role
The Core Software Team at Digital Domain is responsible for core tools and distributed services for use across the facility, including: asset, task, and software management; dailies, render submission, analytics, cross-site data transfer, and core Python libraries. The Core Software Engineer with a Dailies Focus is responsible for the support, design, implementation, and deployment of components of our Dailies System, including a core C++/QT UI, a PostgreSQL database schema, RV integration, and a suite of Python scripts and APIs. The Engineer works closely with fellow team members, artists, and TDs to ensure the software meets the facility's needs. This challenging position requires strong Python and C++ skills, experience with relational databases, and PyQt/Qt ui frameworks, and a willingness to learn new skills.
Core Responsibilities
- Partner with Pipeline and Production Stakeholders to establish and manage development goals.
- Design, build, and roll out Dailies software solutions tailored to production requirements, including the main
media browser (C++/QT), a range of RV plugins, and PyQt-based transcoding workflows and interfaces.
- Oversee the continuous refinement and maintenance of the Dailies database schema.
- Architect, implement, and upgrade Dailies-specific APIs as required.
- Maintain unit, integration, and functional test suites ensuring that the Dailies tool suite runs as intended
- Address production needs by providing support, implementing feature enhancements, and resolving software
defects.
Qualifications
- Educational Background:
o Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or a proven combination of education and experience demonstrating professional problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Experience:
o Minimum of 2-4 years of hands-on experience developing and supporting video playback tooling such as RV, Hiero, or Nuke.
- Programming Skills:
o 3+ years of Python programming experience. o 3+ years of C++ programming experience. o Expertise with the Qt C++ UI framework o 3+ years of PostgreSQL experience including server side PL/SQL programming and schema design, or equivalent experience with other Relational DBs
- Additional Useful Skills:
o Shotgrid/Flow Production Tracking experience. o Playback systems such as NDI, Blackmagic, AJA. o OpenImageIO, OpenColorIO, FFMPEG. o Knowledge of color transforms, color spaces, LUTs, CDL. o Timeline formats: EDL, OpenTimelineIO. o Knowledge of video codecs, file compression, audio codecs. o Advanced streaming video protocols such as WebRTC, RTMP / SRT, MoQ. Work-Life Balance
- This position offers the flexibility of being fully remote. However, you need to reside full-time in British
Columbia. For those who prefer an in-office environment, we have locations in Vancouver and can accommodate those preferences.

- Standard work hours range from 40 to 50 hours per week. While there may be occasional requirements for
additional hours in the evenings or on weekends to perform maintenance outside of production hours, these instances are typically planned during scheduled downtime.
