Layout/Scene Assembly Artist
Purpose of the job
As a Scene Assembly Artist you will be responsible for the positioning of both plate-based and full CG cameras in the correct worldspace, adding assets as needed, and ensuring that continuity of camera and asset positions are maintained throughout any given sequence. This involves working closely with CG and DFX supervisors, as well as the integration (tracking, matchmove, camera), environments,assets, animation, and previz/postviz teams as needed.
Essential Functions/Responsibilities
- A solid understanding of Solaris and its functional pipeline in a Production environment
- Independently work through the layout and scene assembly needs for various shows
- Work closely with Production to determine staffing and scheduling for any team members should
the needs grow.
- Complete tasks within production deadlines
- Work closely with the CG Supervisor, the environments department, and the assets department,
to determine the optimal level of detail of the environments and layouts required.
- Conversion of previs and postvis scenes into our VFX shot production pipeline.
- Organizing and maintaining the continuity of cameras and assets throughout the sequence.
- Basic 3D modeling and scan/survey data cleanup.
- Attends all relevant production meetings and dailies.
- Work with animation to troubleshoot any camera and continuity issues that arise.
- Be able to provide guidance and mentorship to Layout artists as needed.
Education and/or Experience Required
- 5+ years of experience setting up cameras and assets in Maya or Houdini, and maintaining
continuity and worldspace throughout sequences.
- Strong background in Houdini/Solaris, Maya, and Nuke
- Ideally a well rounded generalist background
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Leading or mentoring experience
- Camera tracking and matchmove experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in scene, camera, and character composition is essential
- Ability to learn and use new software as needed.

- Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending
production needs

The posted range describes the minimum to maximum range for this job description in the provinces of British Columbia. The range is posted in accordance with applicable law.
