Getting started

The interface

The six zones of the Studio window: tools bar, node graph, viewer, properties, menu bar, render queue.

The Studio window has six regions. Everything you do lives in one of them.

  • ·Menu bar across the top: file operations, import and export, sharing, and the Help menu.
  • ·Tools bar on the left: every node you can place, grouped by category with a search box.
  • ·Node graph in the middle: the canvas where you place and wire nodes.
  • ·Viewer above it: shows the output of whichever node is connected to a viewer slot.
  • ·Properties on the right: settings for the selected node, plus its help text, disable toggle, note and colour.
  • ·Render queue, a floating panel while a graph is running: what is executing, how long it has taken, and a cancel button.

Viewer slots

The viewer works like Nuke's. Select a node and press 1 through 9 to pin it to that slot, then press the same number later to jump back to it. Slots remember their node, so you can flip between a plate, a matte and a comp without rewiring.

W turns on a wipe. Shift plus a number sets the node on the other side of the wipe, so you can drag the seam across a before and after. If both sides are video, playback stays in sync.
